AI Business Strategy & Analysis
Using AI for market research, competitor intelligence, and business model testing.
The AI Strategy Consultant
You have a world-class business consultant at your fingertips. This lesson turns AI into your strategic advisor for every major business decision.
1. Competitor Intelligence
- Workflow: Paste a competitor's website copy into AI → "Identify their core value proposition. Where are they weak? If I wanted to win over their customers, what should I offer that they don't?"
- Deep Dive Prompt: "Read [Competitor URL]. Create a SWOT analysis. For each weakness, propose a specific product or service feature that would exploit it. For each strength, tell me how to differentiate rather than compete directly."
- Traffic Analysis: Use SimilarWeb or similar to see where competitors get traffic. Ask AI: "Our competitor gets 40% of traffic from LinkedIn. What does that tell us about their audience? How do we compete for the same people?"
2. Customer Persona Deep-Dive
Instead of guessing, ask AI:
- "You are a 35-year-old busy parent in Mumbai struggling with [Problem]. What keeps you up at night? What are the top 3 things you would pay ₹1000 to solve right now?"
- Persona Expansion: "Now describe their typical Tuesday. What apps do they open? What podcasts do they listen to? Where do they get their news? What ads do they actually stop to watch?"
3. The AI-First Business Audit
Ask the AI to review your current business model.
- Prompt: "Here is my business model. Be a 'Devil's Advocate'. Find 5 reasons why this might fail in the next 12 months. Then, suggest how I can use AI to mitigate those risks."
- Full Audit Prompt: "Conduct a complete audit of my [Business Type]. For each: 1) Product-Market Fit, 2) Pricing Strategy, 3) Go-to-Market Approach, 4) Unit Economics. Identify the single biggest vulnerability and suggest the fastest fix."
4. Market Sizing with AI
Never guess market size again:
- Prompt: "Estimate the total addressable market (TAM) for [Product] in [City/Country]. Walk me through your calculation. What assumptions did you make? What could make this estimate wrong?"
- Note: AI can make up numbers. Always validate with real sources like industry reports, government data, or competitor disclosures.
5. The Pricing Strategy Consultant
- Prompt: "I sell [Product] at [Price]. My competitor sells similar at [Price]. Help me think about pricing strategy: 1) Should I go lower, same, or higher? 2) What value add justifies my price? 3) What's a commonly overlooked pricing model in this space (subscription, freemium, usage-based)?"
6. The Exit Strategy Analyzer
- Prompt: "I'm building a [Business Type]. If I wanted to sell this in 5 years, what should I be building NOW to maximize valuation? Think about: 1) Recurring revenue, 2) Proprietary data, 3) Brand equity, 4) Scalability without proportional headcount."
⚠️ Common Mistakes
- Confirmation Bias: Asking the AI "Tell me why my idea is great." Instead, ask "Tell me why my idea will fail."
- Old Data: Remember that LLM training data is usually 6-12 months old. For current market trends, always use Perplexity or Gemini with live search.
- Asking Once: Always do at least 3 rounds of questioning. The first answer is surface-level. Dig deeper with "Why?" and "What else?" until you hit real insights.
- Ignoring Disconfirming Evidence: If AI gives you bad news about your idea, don't ignore it. Ask "What would need to be true for this to work anyway?" Sometimes the fix is in the exceptions.
What's Next: Strategy is the skeleton. Visuals are the skin. Let's design with AI.

Hands-on Practicals
Describe your current business or a project idea. Ask AI to play a 'Skeptical Investor' and find 3 major flaws. Then, ask it to help you fix them.
Identify 3 problems your target customers face. Use AI to research how competitors currently solve (or fail to solve) these problems. For each gap, create a 'Job to Be Done' statement that your product could fulfill.
Create a formal SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) for your business. For each quadrant, ask AI to: 1) Generate 5 points, 2) Rank by importance, 3) Suggest counter-moves. Use this to build your strategy.
