AI for Business Development & Sales

Using AI for lead generation, prospecting, and closing deals.

AI Sales Agent

Your sales team just got a superpower. AI doesn't replace salespeople — it makes them 10x more effective by handling the research and prep work that used to take hours.

1. The Lead Research Assistant

Before any outreach, know everything:

  • Prompt: "I have a lead from [Company]. Research their latest funding round, recent news, LinkedIn activity, and the profiles of decision-makers. Identify 3 potential pain points AI could solve for them. Also identify their current tech stack if visible."
  • LinkedIn Profile Analysis: Paste a LinkedIn profile URL content → "What does this person care about most? What are their stated goals? What would make them trust a new vendor?"
  • Company Intelligence Report: Paste company name → "Give me a 1-page company snapshot: revenue trajectory, recent hires, product launches, market position, and Biggest weakness right now."

2. Personalized Outreach at Scale

  • Template: "Use this research to draft a personalized LinkedIn message that references [Specific Achievement] and explains how [Your Solution] could help with [Identified Pain Point]. Keep it under 100 words."
  • Multi-Channel Sequence: For each lead, create:
    1. LinkedIn connection request with personalized note
    2. Follow-up DM (if no response in 5 days)
    3. Email (if still no response) Each message references different information — don't repeat yourself.

3. The Negotiation Coach

  • Prompt: "I'm negotiating a [Deal Type]. Here are my objectives: [List]. Their likely objections are: [List]. Suggest 3 counter-arguments and 3 value-adding concessions I could make. Also suggest the best opening position and why."
  • The Walk-Away Calculator: "At what point should I walk away from this negotiation? What are the deal-breakers I should define before I start?"
  • Power Dynamics Analysis: "In this negotiation, who has more leverage and why? How can I increase my leverage before the next conversation?"

4. The Discovery Call Assistant

Before a sales call:

  • Prompt: "I'm about to talk to [Prospect Company]. They sell [Product]. I sell [My Product]. Prepare a 10-question discovery call script that uncovers: 1) Current pain points, 2) Decision-making process, 3) Budget authority, 4) Timeline, 5) Risk of inaction."

5. The Proposal Generator

After a call:

  • Prompt: "Based on this call summary: [Paste notes], generate a proposal outline. Include: 1) Problem statement (in their words), 2) Proposed solution (specific to them), 3) Pricing options (3 tiers), 4) Social proof (relevant case studies), 5) Next steps. Make it scannable — they will skim, not read."

6. Objection Handling Library

Build your own objection library:

  • Prompt: "I sell [Product]. Generate 20 common objections and the best responses to each. For each response, make it feel like a natural conversation, not a script. Include what the customer is really saying behind the objection."

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  • Over-Automation: AI should assist, not replace, human connection. Never automate 100% of your sales outreach. Personal touches — a video Loom, a handwritten note — still matter.
  • Generic Personalization: "Hi [First Name]" isn't personalization. Real personalization references specific facts about their business.
  • Selling Before Understanding: Don't pitch until you've asked enough questions to know their actual problem. Use AI to prepare questions, not to deliver scripts.
  • Following Up Too Soon: AI can help you schedule follow-ups at the right cadence. Space matters. Respect their time.

Advanced Move — The "Smart Follow-Up" System:

  1. AI researches the lead's recent LinkedIn post or company news.
  2. AI drafts a unique follow-up referencing something specific to them.
  3. You record a 30-second Loom video adding the human element.
  4. Send: Loom + AI draft = personal at scale.

What's Next: Sales is about relationships. Let's talk about how AI helps you build more, better relationships.

Hands-on Practicals

The 10-Minute Lead

Take a potential client you'd like to work with. Spend 10 minutes researching them using AI: 1) Their website, 2) Recent news, 3) LinkedIn profiles. Ask AI to summarize key insights and draft a personalized outreach. Measure how much faster this is than manual research.

The Personalization Test

Create 3 outreach messages: 1) Generic, 2) Name + Company only, 3) Specific reference to their business or recent achievement. Rate each on authenticity. Ask recipients which felt most genuine.

The Negotiation Prep

Script a mock negotiation scenario with AI as the 'prospective client'. Practice 3 different approaches: 1) Price-focused, 2) Value-focused, 3) Relationship-focused. Record and analyze your performance.
